Local social services boards member files, 1937-1998.

Records documenting local (mainly county) social services boards established in 1937 [Laws 1937 c343] and charged with the administration of all forms of public assistance and public welfare, both of children and adults, and the supervision, in cooperation with the Board of Control, of the administration of all forms of public assistance, including aid to dependent children, old age assistance, veterans aid, aid to the blind, and other public assistance or public welfare purposes. The majority of the records pertain to the selection of members, length of terms, and vacancies. Included are letters of appointment, correspondence regarding board disbandment, member references, lists of officers, and interview notes. All but fifteen of the boards had disbanded by 1998.
